THE SURGICAL PROCEDURE














 

MY HALLUX VALGUS OPERATION BY PERCUTANEOUS SURGERY

You must arrive to the hospital 1 hour before surgery and with 8 hours fast.

You must wear the post-operation shoe until the surgery room.

When they call us we will have to change in a dressing room where they will give us a locker to keep our street clothes and they will give us clean surgery clothes.

There is no need to bring pyjamas or any other special clothing.

They will take us to the pre-surgery room.
Here they will wash our feet and they will disinfect it. They will cover it with a sterilized cloth.

 		 One time we are inside of the surgery room, the nurse will put us some serum.
 
  The anaesthetist trough this catheter will administer us some medication so we will be relaxed and not have any pain. In this way we won’t notice the anaesthesia.

The anaesthesia is local and helps to block the sensitive nerves of the feet. It is not necessary to do Spine anaesthesia or general anaesthesia, although each case is different and only remains the professional criteria after the anaesthetist talks to the patient and the surgeon.

After we have the foot anaesthetized, we will go to the surgery room.

After checking that the anaesthesia is perfect we start the surgery.

They will moved us to the recovery room where we will remain for an hour.

After this hour we make the patient to start walking.

If everything is all right, we will release him. It is important to leave with the surgical report and a prescription with the treatment to follow. In the recovery room they will give us analgesics for the next hours. If everything goes right the pain must be minimal. It is a requirement to go on a wheel chair until we get to the car.

We must call the doctor the following day for a progress report.

During the first week we can walk, but it is also very important to rest.

 After a week we will go to the hospital to remove the stitches and they will do a post-surgery bandage which is very important. We must use the post-surgery shoe for the whole month from the day of surgery.

After a month they will remove the bandage and they will put a little bandage that will end to correct the toes. It is very important that the patient will learn to put it on himself. This will have to be done for fifteen days or three weeks. In this stage he can wear normal shoes.
